Regenemm Healthcare: Combining realtime biometrics, psychometrics and AI
From a digital tool to monitor Practitioner Burnout to a breakthrough multifaceted AI healthcare Platform: The Genesis of Regenemm Healthcare
In late 2019, a visionary idea was born at the Creative Thinking Institute—a concept that would bridge the gap between cutting-edge technology and personal healthcare practitioner well-being.
The brainchild of Dr Brendan O'Brien, a seasoned Consultant Neurosurgeon FRACS, with over 25 years of Neuroscience experience and a rich background in digital healthcare.
After graduating from medical school and working for six years in Family medical practice, he attained the FRACGP and subsequently commenced his Neurosurgical training.
With this rich background, Regenemm was initially envisioned as a mobile application that could revolutionize how we understand and manage burnout in the health practitioner workforce.
The Spark of Innovation
Burnout among healthcare professionals reached alarming levels in the pre-Covid era. Witnessing this firsthand, Dr O'Brien recognized the urgent need for a tool that could provide real-time insights into one's mental and physical health.
Combining his medical expertise with entrepreneurial flair, he created an application that would assess and actively assist individuals in navigating the challenges of high-stress professions.
Building the Foundation
The initial development phase kicked off in October 2019 but more crystallised explicitly throughout 2020. Partnering with an external IT development company, the team began crafting a robust frontend and backend infrastructure using React.js, Node.js, Python, and AWS.
The goal was ambitious: integrate biometric data from smartwatches with proprietary psychometric analyses to offer a holistic view of an individual's well-being.
Crafting Proprietary Psychometrics
Understanding that existing metrics were insufficient, the team collaborated with research statisticians, organizational psychologists, and research psychologists to develop proprietary psychometric tests.
These included assessments for the Adaptability Quotient (AQ), Burnout Stigma Score, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Score, and a unique take on the Emotional Quotient (EQ).
Merging Data for Deeper Insights
The innovation didn't stop there. By combining these psychometric scores with biometric data—such as heart rate variability, VO2 Max, exercise stress and sleep patterns—and factoring in specific relevant family and personal medical history, along with physiological test results, Regenemm has aimed to provide a comprehensive stress score through detailed proprietary algorithms.
With scoring visualisation, modelled after the Yerkes-Dodson law, users can see a graphical representation of their stress vs performance levels in relation to day-to-day work and personal performance.
The Road Ahead
As 2020 progressed, Regenemm's potential became increasingly evident. Initially targeting physicians, nurses, and allied healthcare practitioners, the team soon realized that the application had a broader appeal. Lawyers, more allied healthcare workers, and business professionals could all greatly benefit from the nuanced personal insights Regenemm provided.
A Vision Realized
Dr. O'Brien's vision was taking shape. By the end of 2020 and into 2021, the groundwork had been laid for what would become a transformative tool for personal well-being. The journey was beginning, but the foundation was strong, built on innovation, deep clinical expertise, and a genuine desire to make a difference.
